The Problem With Yelling | Hilary Jacobs Hendel Author, Psychotherapist, The Change Triangle December 22, 2017 at 12:16AM

"Being frequently yelled at changes the mind, brain and body in a multitude of ways including increasing the activity of the amygdala (the emotional brain), increasing stress hormones in the blood stream, increasing muscular tension, and more. Being frequently yelled at changes how we think and feel about our Self even after we become adults and leave home."

This is my reading list on parenting next year. So much to learn for a rookie mom with minimum help. I have not read any personal favorite genres since my child was born...

Women with “resting bitch face” are actually better communicators December 14, 2017 at 09:57PM

So glad to find out that I am not alone with my RBF! I may look eternally serious or grumpy "by default" (when I don't make any effort to smile; and yes, it is tiring for RBF to put on a smiley face all the times!) but those who know me well appreciate who I really am at heart. For that, I thank you all, my lovely friends.

It’s science: The mother-daughter bond is even more powerful than we thought December 05, 2017 at 10:57PM

Abby didn't know anything about my favorite canton pop singers. But when she saw me getting excited about seeing one in concert, she also started yelling "I like Jacky Cheung!" 😂 #myfunnytoddlyvalentine

HuffPost Parents December 02, 2017 at 10:34PM

Postpartum depression is very real. I went through a challenging time after birth but thank God (and my best mom friends) that I didn't get it in the end. For all the new moms out there, whenever you have these thoughts, please feel free to message me and I will try my best to counsel you.

8 Things Never To Say To A Mom Of An Only Child December 02, 2017 at 10:26PM

I am usually not offended by this particular question, but this essay totally kills it! A mom should not be judged for having just one child. I am a single-child mom who is absolutely hands-on taking care of my toddler from day one. No daycare. No nanny. No servant. Not a single night I spend outside without being on standby for her needs. It can be tiring and frustrating. But I never miss any single one of her milestones. I believe in building a secured base since birth. As of today I see her growing into a mostly happy, loving, healthy, friendly and confident toddler (in lieu of tantrum fits 🤦🏻‍♀️). I don't know what the future holds but one day I wish I could proudly tell her that, I have always been by her side at least for the first two years when she was most needy and vulnerable. I am happy with Abby alone if it is meant to be. ❤️
