The Constitution lets the electoral college choose the winner. They should choose Clinton. December 18, 2016 at 10:29PM

"And indeed, there is an especially good reason for them not to nullify what the people have said — the fundamental principle of one person, one vote. We are all citizens equally. Our votes should count equally. And since nothing in our Constitution compels a decision otherwise, the electors should respect the equal vote by the people by ratifying it on Dec. 19..."

Lying Down With Your Kids Until They Fall Asleep Is Not A Bad Habit December 14, 2016 at 11:05AM

"You might ask: How will they ever learn to self-soothe? How will they learn to fall asleep without you? Aren’t you going to create dependent sissies who never learn how to function in the world without you? The answer to the last question is an unequivocal nope. Numerous studies have shown that the more attached kids are, the more secure and independent they actually become. It makes sense if you think about it: Giving kids security makes them feel confident and able to function with ease in the world..." At times, my tot really drives me nuts putting her down to bed after protracted hours. Especially during those nights where she needed to practise her "kungfu" and "yoga" before she started walking. But then again, she sleeps by herself now on her big full-sized bed. Lying down with her until she falls asleep is the least I can do every night to comfort her. She will cuddle up to me and call me "mama" before she drifts away. I love that feeling. That's one of the beauty of motherhood. #beautyofmotherhood

How Hearing Works December 11, 2016 at 12:00PM

"The eardrum is rigid, and very sensitive. Even the slightest air-pressure fluctuations will move it back and forth. It is attached to the tensor tympani muscle, which constantly pulls it inward. This keeps the entire membrane taut so it will vibrate no matter which part of it is hit by a sound wave."

Hillary Clinton November 09, 2016 at 05:24PM

I need to share this with my daughter one dwy, that we shall not lose hope and fight on. Thank you, Mrs Clinton. You are truly an inspiration. 😢
via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/hillaryclinton/posts/1324421317614394 Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans. This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, and I’m sorry we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country. But I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together—this vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energized campaign. You represent the best of America, and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I know how disappointed you feel, because I feel it too. And so do tens of millions of Americans who invested their hopes and dreams in this effort. This is painful, and it will be for a long time. But I want you to remember this: Our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love—and about building an America that’s hopeful, inclusive, and big-hearted. We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America—and I always will. And if you do, too, then we must accept this result—and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. Our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power, and we don’t just respect that, we cherish it. It also enshrines other things—the rule of law, the principle that we’re all equal in rights and dignity, and the freedom of worship and expression. We respect and cherish these things too—and we must defend them. And let me add: Our constitutional democracy demands our participation, not just every four years, but all the time. So let’s do all we can to keep advancing the causes and values we all hold dear: making our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top; protecting our country and protecting our planet; and breaking down all the barriers that hold anyone back from achieving their dreams. We’ve spent a year and a half bringing together millions of people from every corner of our country to say with one voice that we believe that the American Dream is big enough for everyone—for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people, and people with disabilities. Our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to build that better, stronger, fairer America we seek. And I know you will. I am so grateful to stand with all of you. I want to thank Tim Kaine and Anne Holton for being our partners on this journey. It gives me great hope and comfort to know that Tim will remain on the front-lines of our democracy, representing Virginia in the Senate. To Barack and Michelle Obama: Our country owes you an enormous debt of gratitude for your graceful, determined leadership, and so do I. To Bill, Chelsea, Marc, Charlotte, Aidan, our brothers, and our entire family, my love for you means more than I can ever express. You crisscrossed this country on my behalf and lifted me up when I needed it most—even 4-month-old Aidan traveling with his mom. I will always be grateful to the creative, talented, dedicated men and women at our headquarters in Brooklyn and across our country who poured their hearts into this campaign. For you veterans, this was a campaign after a campaign — for some of you, this was your first campaign ever. I want each of you to know that you were the best campaign anyone has had. To all the volunteers, community leaders, activists, and union organizers who knocked on doors, talked to neighbors, posted on Facebook—even in secret or in private: Thank you. To everyone who sent in contributions as small as $5 and kept us going, thank you. And to all the young people in particular, I want you to hear this. I’ve spent my entire adult life fighting for what I believe in. I’ve had successes and I’ve had setbacks—sometimes really painful ones. Many of you are at the beginning of your careers. You will have successes and setbacks, too. This loss hurts. But please, please never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it. It’s always worth it. And we need you keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives. To all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me, I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. I know that we still have not shattered that highest glass ceiling. But some day someone will—hopefully sooner than we might think right now. And to all the little girls watching right now, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world. Finally, I am grateful to our country for all it has given me. I count my blessings every day that I am an American. And I still believe, as deeply as I ever have, that if we stand together and work together, with respect for our differences, strength in our convictions, and love for this nation—our best days are still ahead of us. You know I believe we are stronger together and will go forward together. And you should never be sorry that you fought for that. Scripture tells us: “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.” My friends, let us have faith in each other. Let us not grow weary. Let us not lose heart. For there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do. I am incredibly honored and grateful to have had this chance to represent all of you in this consequential election. May God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Sylvia November 09, 2016 at 02:00PM

via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/556031611/posts/10153811143306612 I came this country admiring her as one of the most progressive democracies in the world. I admire President Obama (and I still do). Previously I didn't like Hillary Clinton but her last nomination defeat was a humbling experience for her. Since then she had mellowed down, focusing on her job as the Secretary of State which proves that she is more than qualified to be the next president. She is not without her flaws. But she is brilliant and determined. She is ever ready, and I trust that she only has the public interest at heart to make things better in the US. Especially policies favoring equality for women. Now this country has elected a buffoon with the worst personal, political and professional profiles to be her president. Does it even matter now to teach your kid about respect, kindness, integrity, decency, equality, perseverance, working hard and other good values? After President Obama has helped recovering America from the mess left behind by a Republican president, is everything going back to square one now? My heart has been bleeding for this country since last night (though Abby slept through the night for almost 10 hours). This election affects me even more because I am a mother now. I fear for the future of my daughter 😢

What Do We Tell The Children? November 09, 2016 at 01:04PM

"... Tell them, second, that you will honor the outcome of the election, but that you will fight bigotry. Tell them bigotry is not a democratic value, and that it will not be tolerated at your school. Tell them you stand by your Muslim families. Your same-sex parent families. Your gay students. Your Black families. Your female students. Your Mexican families. Your disabled students. Your immigrant families. Your trans students. Your Native students. Tell them you won’t let anyone hurt them or deport them or threaten them without having to contend with you first. Say that you will stand united as a school community, and that you will protect one another. Say that silence is dangerous, and teach them how to speak up when something is wrong. Then teach them how to speak up, how to love one another, how to understand each other, how to solve conflicts, how to live with diverse and sometimes conflicting ideologies, and give them the skills to enter a world that doesn’t know how to do this... "

Don't Worry, Mama — You'll Get Your Mojo Back October 29, 2016 at 09:09PM

"...Right now, you’re learning how to love and take care of another human being. This isn’t something that just happens automatically; it’s a process, and it takes time. And before that balance is reached, someone’s needs will have to slide so another’s can be met. And it’s going to be yours — because you’re a damn good mom. So stop beating yourself up and wondering why you can’t be more pulled together. It might not be tomorrow. It might be years from now. But take heart: One day, your babies won’t need so much from you, and your attention will gradually shift back to yourself. You’ll have time to de-fuzz your bikini line and wax your eyebrows. You’ll do something just for you, and it will feel wonderful. You’ll catch glimpses of the person you used to be — fleeting ones at first, then more and more frequent — until one day, you realize that she’s back. Yes, she’s changed because she’s somebody’s mom now, but it only makes her a better, more complete version..." Totally spot on! Can't stop tearing while reading this essay...

Why Mothers Stay Up Late September 20, 2016 at 08:25PM

“I want to sit on the sofa and not have someone climb on me. I want to not be touched for a while. Sometimes, when the kids are around me all day, clinging to my body, it feels like sensory overload. It makes me want to crawl into a bubble. I need a little time to just sit and watch a show that isn’t about a family of pigs or Minecraft. Toddler Survives Cancer, Father Kills Her for Receiving Too Much Attention September 19, 2016 at 08:03AM

via Facebook http://ift.tt/2d0LCDr On Saturday, 25-year-old Ryan Lawrence pleaded guilty to murdering his 21-month-old daughter. He indicated to authorities that he was envious of the attention she received after surviving eye cancer.

New Moms Have To Be Superhuman If They Want To Keep Their Careers, And It's Bullsh*t August 31, 2016 at 01:36PM

Every situation is different. Good for this super mom that she has special and magical power but such high standard should not be imposed on all other moms. She is bragging to the world that she's awesome for NOW. Let's see how such high stress might affect her physically and psychologically in the long run. Sleep deprivation is a serious issue. Longer maternity leave plus other flexible work arrangements are definitely better solutions to support the moms.

Sketching for travellers: reasons to swap your smartphone for a pencil or paint - Lonely Planet July 27, 2016 at 10:52AM

I sketched the "Winged Victory of Samothrace" in the Louvre 2 years ago. Till today it leaves a profound and lasting impression (as opposed to photo-snapping) of its beauty in me :) Being a new mom had switched off that personal passion in me for one full year! As motherhood becomes less physically demanding these days, I wish to rediscover that part of me again. And hopefully in the near future, Abby and I will enjoy more art and craft together!

Love and regret: mothers who wish they’d never had children May 10, 2016 at 09:37AM

Everyday I am grateful for having my healthy bouncy girl by my side. But pregnancy, child birth and motherhood are not always blissful with no tears, stress and frustration. I think all women should set their expectation right and make a calculated decision before entering the challenging realm of motherhood. Meanwhile, society should not expect all women to be mothers. Women should be able to make their own choice to pursue their own happiness.
via Facebook http://ift.tt/1WYusZg Around the world, women are seeking an honest, open debate about what happens when you admit that motherhood isn’t everything you were told to expect

Where Are the Happy Babies? April 23, 2016 at 12:44AM

"In the first year of life, the neocortex begins to build up the area for reasoning, thinking, planning, and other executive functions--systems that apparently finish themselves in the third decade if life. The emotion systems get established and connected by age two, which affects social capabilities later. So the first two years set up personality, intelligence and social success. (See Greenspan & Shanker, 2004; Schore, 2001.) Thus, caregiver care in the first years of life is CRITICAL for optimal brain and body development, for intellectual, social and emotional intelligence."
